Wondering how often you should change your engine oil? There’s plenty of advice out there — some say every 20,000 miles, but here’s the truth: the fresher the oil, the longer your diesel engine will last. From experience, we recommend doing it every 7,000 miles to keep your engine running smoothly.

At Sprinter’s Barn, we use only fully synthetic 5W-30 oil that meets Mercedes-Benz standards. We carry trusted brands like Mobil 1, Fuchs, and Liqui Moly. Not every shop stocks the premium 229.52 oil required for newer Sprinter models—but we do!

What Oil Does Your Van Need?

  • Sprinters (2010 and newer): Premium 5W-30 MB 229.52 oil only. Using the wrong oil can reduce your van’s performance and longevity.
  • Sprinters (2002–2009): 5W-40 premium German oil for smooth performance.
  • RAM, Metris, and Ford vans: We know exactly which oil type your engine needs—leave the details to us!

  2. Free Inspection: We’ll inspect your brakes, fluids, and tires at no extra cost.
  3. Computer Diagnostics (for Service B): Collected information from your board computer will help us to determine issues you had in the past, and based on that we will help you to avoid them in the future.

Why Monitoring Your Oil Level Matters & How to Do It Right

Keeping the right oil level is critical for your engine’s health. Running low on oil increases friction between engine parts, which can lead to overheating, premature wear, and costly repairs.

  1. Park on Level Ground: Make sure the van is parked on a flat surface to get an accurate reading.
  2. Check When the engine is off: Wait for the engine to cool down for a correct reading.
  3. Use your menu to check the oil level. If your VAN is 2019 and up, it may not have the dipstick at all.
  4. Use the Dipstick: Pull it out, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and pull it out again.
  5. Look for the Right Range: The oil should sit between the MIN and MAX lines.
  6. Watch for Warning Lights: If the oil light appears, stop safely and check immediately.
